International delivery times depend far more on the shipping mode and destination customs process than most shippers expect. Two parcels sent the same day, on the same route, can arrive days apart purely because of the service level chosen and how the destination country's customs handles the shipment.

What adds time beyond the courier's stated transit window
- Customs clearance delays. A mismatched invoice value, missing IEC, or a shipment flagged for manual inspection can add several days regardless of the service level booked.
- Duty payment delays. In countries where duty is collected on delivery (increasingly common for US-bound parcels since the de-minimis suspension), the parcel can sit until the recipient pays.
- Remote destination addresses. Delivery to addresses outside major metro areas in the destination country often adds 1–3 extra days.
- Peak season congestion. Volume surges around year-end holidays materially slow both customs processing and last-mile delivery networks.
Setting the right expectation with your recipient
Because customs clearance time is outside the courier's direct control, it's worth telling recipients that the courier's quoted transit time covers transportation, not guaranteed door-to-door delivery — especially for a first-time international shipment to a country like the US where post-2025 customs processing is now mandatory for every parcel regardless of value.
